Last week, with the aim of bringing a transformative and digital educational experience to pupils and teachers at schools located in vulnerable environments, Fundación Telefónica, together with the Ministry of Education (MEDUCA), kick-started the implementation of the project in 76 schools in the Central American country.
ProFuturo, the educational initiative promoted by Fundación Telefónica and the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, focuses on the acquisition of essential skills among school-age children by means of two key tools: technology and teacher empowerment for the application of innovative teaching methodologies. In its initial phase, the project will provide schools with mobile technological equipment and training in digital skills for more than 700 teachers from the provinces of Chiriquí, Veraguas and Panamá Oeste, as well as guidance during the implementation process in the classroom.
“Education is the most powerful tool for reducing inequality and building a more sustainable world. This is a unique, innovative and transformative project, with which we seek to provide high-quality education, through technology, for the vulnerable populations of Panama, ensuring that all the children have access to the instruments they need to grow and develop in equality,” declared Vicky Riaño, Director of Fundación Telefónica in Panama.
The project is thereby being set in motion in 76 schools in the country, 33 of them located in Panamá Oeste (the Arraiján, La Chorrera, Capira, Chame and San Carlos districts), 28 in Veraguas (the Cañazas, Calobre, Montijo, Rio de Jesus, San Francisco Santiago and Soná districts) and 15 in Chiriquí (the Barú district).
In this initial phase, the project is expected to benefit 17,000 Panamanian pupils. In this way, ProFuturo continues to pursue its dream of universal and high-quality education, in which all children have equal opportunities.
