Global goals to reduce the digital divide in vulnerable environments: ProFuturo’s objectives for 2026

The program run by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “La Caixa” consolidates its commitment to enhanced intervention in the best operations, integrating artificial intelligence into the educational ecosystem and strengthening its impact measurement plan.

For Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “La Caixa,” 2025 was a key year in which, through their ProFuturo program, they reaffirmed their commitment to promoting quality digital education in vulnerable environments, improving opportunities for thousands of children and teachers around the world. This commitment is being consolidated in 2026 thanks to increased involvement in the best operations and schools and the strengthening of its impact measurement plan, which, through rigorous methodologies, allows for periodic evidence to be obtained each year, as well as long-term analysis to identify and demonstrate the positive effects of the program.

Among the objectives for this new year is the integration of artificial intelligence into ProFuturo’s educational and organizational ecosystem to drive innovation, content production, and program management, whose training plan will be framed within the context of the Key Actors School. This seeks to incorporate different methodological alternatives to optimize the learning process and achieve more meaningful and lasting results. By combining different approaches, a more enriching and personalized learning experience is guaranteed.

In addition, looking ahead to this new year, ProFuturo will once again participate in various international forums and conferences, contributing its vision, experience, and knowledge while exemplifying how European philanthropic cooperation can generate global solutions.

Similarly, in line with SDG 17 of the 2030 Agenda, ProFuturo will continue to strengthen its network of strategic alliances with both global and local partners and organizations. This collaborative approach will ensure that its impact effectively reaches the communities most in need, guaranteeing not only the continuity of the program in the regions where it already operates, but also its long-term sustainability. Within this framework, it will continue to participate in the joint preparation of studies and reports with other entities, with the aim of looking beyond the classroom and understanding the challenges of digital inclusion from multiple perspectives.

In this regard, the ProFuturo Observatory will continue to engage in dialogue with teachers, researchers, and international experts to understand what is changing, and what should change, in schools. It will also promote discussion and reflection on the current state of digital education around the world, especially (but not only) in vulnerable environments.

Looking ahead to this year, the educational discussion is shifting toward specific issues: how new technologies are used in the classroom, their impact on learning, and how they alter teaching and school organization. The focus is shifting away from the device and toward the pedagogical decisions that accompany it. The important thing will not be to distinguish between “good” and “bad” technologies, but to understand which dynamics are consolidating, which are generating friction, and which educational decisions are involved in specific contexts.
