ProFuturo and American Tower: a partnership to transform digital education in Nigeria

Initially focused on 11 schools in three states, Kano, Kebbi, and Taraba, the partnership is expected to directly benefit more than 5,600 children and 34 teachers, even in areas with limited connectivity.

Fundación ProFuturo and American Tower, a leading provider of telecommunications infrastructure, have announced their partnership to promote digital learning in Nigeria. Kukah Centre, a policy research institute based in Nigeria that works to foster active and engaged citizenship, will also be part of this collaboration. The partnership will involve the distribution of kits, each containing a computer, tablets, a router, a projector, and other essential components, which will improve digital access and learning opportunities for students.

The initiative and the agreement between ATC Nigeria and the ProFuturo Foundation underscore both organizations’ commitment to addressing the digital divide in education. Its goal is to improve understanding of vulnerable school contexts in order to promote innovative teaching practices more effectively and strengthen the digital transformation of education.

Magdalena Brier, CEO of the ProFuturo Foundation, welcomes this agreement, which reinforces the commitment of both entities to fighting the digital divide and the education gap. “The alliance between the ProFuturo Foundation and American Tower is a big step toward improving educational opportunities for the most vulnerable. We are very honored by their support for what we have been doing since 2016, and I constantly think about each of the teachers and children who will benefit, because together we will help transform their lives.”

Pieter Van Der Westhuizen, CEO of ATC Nigeria, praised the initiative, stating: “At ATC Nigeria, we are proud to support this impactful collaboration, which brings digital tools directly into classrooms. Through our collaboration with the ProFuturo Foundation, our Digital Communities program is expanding access to technology and equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in a digital world.”

Initially focused on 11 schools in three states, Kano, Kebbi, and Taraba, the partnership is expected to directly benefit more than 5,600 children and 34 teachers, even in areas with limited connectivity. By equipping schools with these kits, the initiative seeks to reduce educational disparities caused by the digital divide. The kits are designed to enrich the learning experience, support interactive teaching methods, and provide students with access to a wealth of digital educational content.
