The city of Dar es Salaam, the most populous in Tanzania, has been chosen as the host for the 18th edition of eLearning Africa. From May 7 to 9, key figures in education and digital skills gathered at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, in the heart of the city. A delegation from ProFuturo has traveled there, including Lola Martínez, Head of Operations at ProFuturo, and Tomas Mensi, Head of ProFuturo’s operations in Africa and Asia.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology of the United Republic of Tanzania, this edition has received the highest number of proposals and benefited from a strategic location, thanks to Dar es Salaam’s rapidly growing economy, investment opportunities, and proximity to Tanzania’s natural reserves.

One of the highlights of the trip was the official launch of the publication by mEducation Alliance and the Spix Foundation, Leading Perspectives on the State of Digital Courseware in Low-Resource Countries. This publication mentions ProFuturo’s commitment to reducing the digital divide in vulnerable areas and the importance of providing educators with the skills and tools needed to integrate digital content into classrooms.”
As in previous years, the program includes debates, workshops, networking events, roundtables, presentations, and many other activities aimed at sharing and exchanging knowledge. In total, more than 1.225 participants from over 82 countries are gathering to share their knowledge and experiences. Among the 230 speakers are African and international eLearning manufacturers, providers, and service companies. They all represent cross-sector collaboration between education, the public sector, government, and businesses.
eLearning Africa was founded in 2005 and has previously been held in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Dakar, Lusaka, Dar es Salaam, Cotonou, Windhoek, Kampala, Cairo, Port Louis, Abidjan and Kigali. Over the past 20 years, it has hosted 21.917 participants from over 100 countries worldwide, more than 75% of whom come from the African continent. Over 4.500 speakers have addressed all aspects of learning, training, and digital skills development.
