The alliance between ProFuturo and American Tower that strengthens digital education in Colombia

To date, the project has benefited 2,325 students and trained 95 teachers in the use of educational technology, with a total of 300 tablets distributed in 10 educational institutions.

Over 2,300 students and 95 teachers from Barranquilla, Colombia, have begun to transform their educational experience thanks to a new project promoted by Telefónica Movistar Colombia Foundation, in partnership with the Barranquilla Ministry of Education and with the support of American Tower. This initiative is part of the global partnership between ProFuturo and American Tower, which aims to narrow the education gap regarding access, use and quality of digital resources in seven countries in Africa and Latin America.

On this occasion, ProFuturo, together with the American Tower’s Digital Communities program, delivered educational suitcases to 10 official institutions in Barranquilla, in an event held on 2 August at the Isaac Newton Educational Institution, located in the El Bosque neighbourhood. Each suitcase is equipped with 300 tablets, 20 laptops, 10 routers, servers and more than 500 digital contents, with the objective of promoting digital transformation and improving access to quality education.

In addition to the technological infrastructure, the project includes teacher training in the use of digital tools and innovative pedagogical methodologies, such as Project Based Learning (PBL), which will promote new ways of teaching and learning in the classroom.

According to Mónica Hernández, director of Telefónica Movistar Colombia Foundation, “we are taking ProFuturo to Barranquilla with the conviction that its essence goes beyond infrastructure. Our focus is on training teachers and children to appropriate technology as a learning tool, thus enhancing their overall development”.

Carlos Mateus, country manager and commercial director of American Tower Colombia, added that “the challenge of closing the digital divide can only be overcome when we work together. Alliances, in this case between the private and public sectors, strengthen our efforts and results”.

To date, the project has benefited 2,325 students and trained 95 teachers in the use of educational technology, with a total of 300 tablets distributed in 10 educational institutions.

ProFuturo continues to work with the aim of bringing quality digital education to more people, ensuring that it reaches those places where it is most needed and has a real impact on the lives of teachers and students.
