The charity race organised by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa” returns for its 10th edition

The event took place alongside the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon. The two races together attracted around 31,000 participants.

Organised by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa”, the ProFuturo Race returned to Madrid’s sporting calendar this Sunday, 22 March, taking place once again alongside the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon and turning the Spanish capital into a huge celebration of sport. Both events attracted some 31,000 runners to the Paseo de Recoletos.

The race retained its iconic 5-kilometre route through the centre of Madrid, passing through several of the capital’s busiest and most famous streets: Génova, San Bernardo, Gran Vía, Montera, San Jerónimo and Paseo del Prado. With nearly 3,000 participants, this was the 10th edition of the race organised by the educational innovation programme using technology, which aims to bridge gaps and transform vulnerable communities.

According to Magdalena Brier, managing director of ProFuturo, “over these 10 years, with the growing popularity of the ProFuturo Race, we have seen how the commitment of Fundación Telefónica and the ’la Caixa” Foundation to putting technology at the service of education in the most remote and vulnerable corners of the world is being socially recognised. Both foundations are very clear that it makes sense to seize the opportunity that technology offers us to improve teacher training and enhance student learning”.

For his part, Guillermo Rodríguez, Head of Planning & Sharing at Telefónica’s Global Marketing, stated last Wednesday, during the presentation ceremony for both races, that “this event is already part of Madrid’s history. At Movistar, we love sponsoring sport because it promotes values with which we strongly identify, such as effort, perseverance, teamwork and solidarity”.

Athletes Chema Martínez and Abel Cantón were among the well-known faces who took part. Esteban Patiño (15:29), Quique Herrero (15:35), Iván Eduardo Castro (15:58), Antía Castro (17:45), Inés Hérault (17:53) and Candela Blázquez (18:04) were the winners of this 10th edition.
