Under the slogan #RunnersWithACause, and with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of ensuring quality education in the world’s most vulnerable schools, the IX ProFuturo Race was held today, a family-friendly and inclusive event for all ages, taking place in conjunction with the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon.

This year, 3,000 runners participated in the ProFuturo Race, a solidarity cause which seeks to highlight the digital inclusion of children from vulnerable backgrounds around the world. The 5 kilometre race is another step in the fight to reduce the educational and digital divide in 30 countries, and includes the active participation of thousands of people committed to a more equitable future for all.

Regarding the winners of the ProFuturo Race, the charity event of the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon, in the women’s category, Leire Castrejón Valero, of the San Sebastian de los Reyes Clínicas Menorca team, took first place. In second place was Olga Jiménez Rodríguez, representing Atletismo Ecosport, and in third place was Katia Mazarías Álvarez. In the men’s category, first place went to Pedro Vega Ballesteros of the JOMA team, followed by Lehsen Sidhamed Ahmed of Núñez Run in second place. Finally, third place went to Diego Zazo Sáez, from the Puente Romanillos team.

ProFuturo Race, a solidarity event for education
ProFuturo is a technology-based educational innovation programme launched by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación «La Caixa» to narrow the global educational gap by providing quality education to children in vulnerable environments in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia. Its intervention model is based on evidence of impact provided by ongoing monitoring, studies, and evaluations.
