Reinventing the world through education and technology

Rodrigo Fábrega was on his way to becoming an economist when education crossed his path—almost by family destiny. Raised among teachers, he learned early on that teaching was far more than delivering knowledge. It was, above all, a way to change difficult realities. His time at Chile’s Ministry of Labour confirmed that behind poverty and social inequality lay a deeper root: education.

Following that conviction, Fábrega changed direction. He completed a master’s degree and two doctorates in education at Penn State University, specialising in comparative and international education. Since then, he has dedicated his career to understanding how technology can revolutionise teaching.

Today, he is a visiting lecturer at the MIT Media Lab, working within the Lifelong Kindergarten group. There, he explores how emerging technologies—especially artificial intelligence—can spark creativity and critical thinking in both students and educators.

He also founded Fundación Cruzando in Chile, a space devoted to democratising access to educational technology. Through this organisation, he develops free and innovative programmes that bring advanced digital tools to communities traditionally excluded from them.

Pragmatic and committed, Rodrigo Fábrega champions an education that shapes critical, autonomous citizens—people who understand that their environment is not something given, but something to be built every day.
