This is the story of a project that leaves an imprint wherever it goes. ProFuturo is much more than an educational programme: it is an invisible revolution that is transforming schools and whole communities. Because when a child can access quality education, everything changes. Their motivation grows, their opportunities multiply, and the future of their family and surroundings is filled with hope. Education is the pillar upon which fairer and more inclusive societies are built. And, if we add in innovation and technology, we begin to speak about progress: a combination capable of traversing barriers, reducing gaps and opening doors to new possibilities.
What is ProFuturo?
ProFuturo is an educational innovation programme led by the Fundación Telefónica and the “la Caixa” Foundation, with the purpose to narrow the world’s education gap. Through technology, we bring quality education to the children who live in vulnerable environments, in both urban and rural areas of Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.Since our founding, we have made an impact on over 1.2 million students and 334,000 teachers in 39 countries. But beyond the numbers, we have countless stories of girls and boys who have managed to learn, grow and dream of a better future, and teachers who, thanks to training and enthusiasm received, have transformed their lives and those of their students.
United behind a common goal
We are not alone on this mission. We are accompanied by partners and allies such as UNESCO, the Spanish Commission of ACNUR, Empieza Por Educar (ExE), Entreculturas, International Rescue Committee (IRC), American Tower, Organization of American States (OAS), Save the Children, World Vision, and others, who share our vision of a world where education is accessible to all, no matter where they live.
Our work is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) especially SDG 4, which seeks to guarantee inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. What’s more, we strive to attain SDG 17, focused on strengthening partnerships to achieve sustainable global development, working closely with organisations that share our commitment to reducing inequalities and improving living conditions through education.
The support of Fundación Telefónica and “la Caixa” Foundation is crucial to ensure we make an impact with our actions. These two leading organisations have pooled their experience and social commitment to making education a universal right and a powerful tool to reduce poverty and exclusion.
Education transforms, but for real transformation, it needs to reach the most remote places, the most forgotten classrooms and the neediest hearts. That is our mission.
