Are you familiar with the transforming power of e-learning? At ProFuturo we believe that it is the most powerful tool for transforming the world. Therefore and on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, on 20 November on the 3rd floor of Espacio Fundación Telefónica we are presenting the photographic story, ‘El poder transformador de la e-ducación’ (‘The transforming power of e-learning’). We invite you to a unique experience: a trip to Angola, Brazil and the Philippines together with 6th grade students at the Salesianos Estrecho school of Madrid. They have been the guides and spokespersons of the educational experiences of other children who live very different realities, yet they are united by the thirst for knowledge and the dream of achieving a better future.
We know that what they learn today will transform their tomorrow, which is why at ProFuturo we’ve been working for three years on taking quality digital education to vulnerable environments. Because the transforming power of education knows no boundaries, join us on the journey of this photographic exhibit. It can be seen until the end of January and in which we show you how we are contributing to transforming the lives of millions of children such as Emilia, Cris and Nicole.
In these three years of ProFuturo’s life, through the digital education programme driven by Telefónica Foundation and “la Caixa” we have amassed thousands of stories from people who give meaning to our efforts and the efforts of all the people and institutions that support us. They are stories about a passion for teaching and about the professional dreams of boys and girls such as Cris, Emilia and Nicole, and of their families as well. We know it’s very hard to merely summarize these stories in just a few words, which is why we designed a show in which, through three countries and three children, we’ve tried to give you a more intimate look at the lives of ProFuturo’s true heroes.
The photographs of this exhibit, presented by Magdalena Brier, Managing Director of ProFuturo, form a part of a book that tells the complete stories of Cris, Emilia and Nicole, and talks about our commitment to education. The book is available on our web page.
In an increasingly more technological world, we want a child of Angola, Brazil or the Philippines to have the same opportunities as one in Madrid. We know that digital education is the key to achieving this objective. Ever since we began operating in July 2016, we have managed to benefit 10 million children in 34 countries of Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. Our objective is to reach 25 million by 2030.
The photographs of the book were taken by Ismael Martínez Sánchez (Jaén, Spain, 1973), a photojournalist living in Nairobi (Kenya), where he has been working on the anthropological, visual look of hope. He has worked photographically for international institutions in over 20 countries, such as Syria, Congo, India, Côte d’Ivoire, Philippines, USA, Togo, Hungary and Brazil. Ismael Martínez was one of the authors of the images in the press trip to Kenya organized by ProFuturo in 2018.
His work has been published in media such as El País, La Vanguardia, El Mundo, ABC and EFE, among others, and has been shown in several European countries, including Luxembourg, France, Spain and Italy.
The show on ProFuturo’s book of photographs will be open until 20 January at Espacio Fundación Telefónica. A unique opportunity to learn how e-learning transforms and empowers.
