The ProFuturo educational project, driven by the Telefónica Foundation and the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, celebrates its first year with a special reception in the 23 countries in which it is working.
This programme was created to provide a quality educational experience to 10 million children by 2020 and to reduce the education gap in the world, to ensure that all children have equal educational opportunities. A year after its launch, the project is present in more than 400 schools and over 1,500 teachers have received training to ensure that students have a better educational experience. The ProFuturo programme is currently available in three languages: English, Spanish and French.
“In this first year we have worked hard to be present in countries in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. There is no greater reward than seeing how this educational programme has established itself so positively in the centres and how it is managing to increase the motivation of students and teachers alike and reduce absenteeism,” says the Director of ProFuturo, Sofía Fernández de Mesa.
During this first year, the ProFuturo team has managed to reach conflict zones and areas with difficult access with the aim of ensuring that all children in any part of the world have access to quality digital education. The two institutions supporting this project, the Telefónica Foundation and the “La Caixa” Banking Foundation, are leaders in their social work contributions in the field of education, and they are collaborating altruistically to succeed in improving education in the world in the short-medium term.
