The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 as International Education Day, celebrating the role that education plays in peace and development. According to UNESCO data, 250 million children and young people are currently out of school and 763 million adults are illiterate.
Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa”, through ProFuturo, their educational innovation program with technology, are working to guarantee this right to thousands of children. ProFuturo is currently present in 27 countries, where it provides digital resources and teacher training to more than 3,000 schools in vulnerable contexts, ensuring that children can learn, create, and thrive on equal terms.
This commitment will be consolidated in 2026 thanks to increased intervention in the best operations and schools and the strengthening of its impact measurement plan. Among the objectives for this new year is the integration of artificial intelligence into ProFuturo’s educational and organizational ecosystem to drive innovation, content production, and program management, whose training plan will be framed within the context of the Key Actors School.
This model seeks to incorporate different methodological alternatives to optimize the learning process and achieve more meaningful and lasting results. By combining different approaches, a more enriching and personalized learning experience is guaranteed.
Since its creation in 2016, ProFuturo has consolidated the importance and impact of its work with solid evidence demonstrating its real impact. Today, it is an example of how European philanthropic cooperation, working together with different multilateral organizations and allies, can promote global solutions that, thanks to cutting-edge technologies and educational innovation, reduce gaps and transform communities.
