For ProFuturo, teachers play a central role as agents of transformation in the communities where they operate. Since 2016, our programme of educational innovation with technology, promoted by Telefónica Foundation and the “La Caixa” Foundation, has focused on strengthening digital competencies for life and learning under the commitment that these will have a positive impact on the lives of students and their families, providing them with the tools to face the challenges of 21st century society.
We have agreements with various partners that have allowed us to expand our presence to strengthen the leadership of the teachers involved. In this way, in 2024 we are partnering with the international Teach For All network to train 8,000 teachers in digital and leadership skills in 5 countries (Cambodia, Colombia, Chile, Kenya and Zimbabwe). This partnership aims to continue bridging the digital gap in education, especially in vulnerable environments.
Merging experiences
The project is based on a cascade implementation model that has already been tested by ProFuturo, where local Teach For All network partners’ teams and their teachers are trained first so that they can then train other teachers already integrated in the local education system, and in this way reach the pupils.
The partners will work together to prepare the different learning pathways, adapting them to the needs of the teachers who will benefit from the project. Modules will also be tailored to different country contexts, including modalities such as asynchronous online, synchronous online and face-to-face courses, so as to ensure the usefulness and correct application of the content.
The courses offered by the project combine ProFuturo’s Digital Teachers approach with Teach For All’s theoretical framework: TACL (Teaching As Collective Leadership). This merger seeks to strengthen the pedagogical integration of technology in the classroom while cultivating community-based teacher leadership.
Digitalisation and leadership with different partners
The alliance puts its diverse expertise at the service of the project. ProFuturo brings extensive experience in the implementation of education programmes, technology and the essential tools to carry out the necessary innovation. For its part, Teach For All contributes with its leadership expertise and its wide network of local partners.
For Magdalena Brier, CEO of ProFuturo, the partnership is very significant: “We are excited to be working hand in hand with Teach For All and its strong network of local partners. Digital education breaks down barriers and we know that its transformative power is key to improving the quality of education. In this partnership, both institutions join forces with a shared purpose: to provide thousands of teachers around the world with high-quality training in digital skills and community leadership that will enable them to be catalysts for change”.
The local implementation of this project in digital and leadership skills training will be the result of a joint effort by Fundación Telefónica Movistar Colombia and Fundación Telefónica Movistar Chile, on behalf of ProFuturo, and the members of the international Teach For All network in the target countries, Enseña por Colombia, Enseña Chile, Teach For Cambodia, Teach For Kenya and Teach For Zimbabwe.
Wendy Kopp, CEO and Co-Founder of Teach For All, recognises that: “Our partnership with ProFuturo marks a step towards closing the education gap, not only through technology but also through leadership development. By harnessing the power of digital tools and fostering strong teacher leadership, this initiative will enable teachers in Cambodia, Colombia, Chile, Kenya and Zimbabwe to develop a generation of students who are equipped to navigate and shape the present and future of their communities”.
