ProFuturo takes part in the annual meeting of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition

Today, the UNESCO Global Education Coalition, an initiative launched in 2020 in response to the crisis in education caused by the pandemic, brought together 232 members committed to a common purpose: to ensure that learning never stops.

ProFuturo had the honour of taking part in the annual meeting of the UNESCO Global Education Coalition, a dynamic partnership created five years ago in response to the education crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, this coalition has expanded into a network comprising 233 partners from 112 countries, which have joined forces to maximise the educational impact worldwide.

The event highlighted key initiatives such as the Global Skills Academy, the Global Teacher Campus, the Global Learning House and the Gender Equality Mission, all of which have empowered millions of teachers, youngsters and students. As Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education at UNESCO, declared: “Association is the new leadership”, a phrase that sums up the collaborative essence of the coalition.

ProFuturo’s involvement

Magdalena Brier, ProFuturo’s Managing Director, took part in the “Empowering teachers and the teaching profession” panel discussion, during the session titled “From 2020 to 2030: Crafting Mission-Oriented Collaborations”. During this conversation, she shared with Bruce Dahlgren from Anthology how innovative solutions and artificial intelligence can empower teachers and transform the future of education. The talk focused on exploring creative methods and radical collaborations to address persistent challenges in education systems, such as accelerating fundamental learning and expanding skills for the future of work.

During her participation, Magdalena Brier emphasised that the greatest achievement in recent years has been to gather evidence showing that a continuous cycle of professional growth and development for teachers really works, particularly in terms of their digital competences. This cycle, implemented by ProFuturo and other partners, includes three key stages: measurement, training and practice. As for the use of artificial intelligence, Magdalena remarked that this technology won’t transform education on its own, just as computers and the internet didn’t, and teachers will continue to be the essential agents of educational change. However, to remain so, they must acquire the necessary digital skills, including the use of AI. She also stressed the importance of sharing resources and knowledge, avoiding “reinventing the wheel” and promoting public assets and effective synergies.

Moreover, both Magdalena Brier and Concepción Gallego from ProFuturo’s alliances team took part in the workshop of the Digital Transformation Collaborative (DTC), one of the coalition’s working groups. The session, titled “From framework to delivery: Dialogue with the Digital Transformation Collaborative (DTC)”, focused on how to convert the common framework of the Six Pillars of the Digital Transformation into specific national education strategies and action plans. It was a space for dialogue to identify challenges and cooperate with other partners to create inclusive and effective solutions for the digital transformation of education.

Ongoing commitment to the educational transformation

ProFuturo’s approach to teacher training is based on a continuous cycle of measurement, training and practice, enabling educators to assess their progress, access personalised training and apply innovative methodologies in the classroom. This model has proven to be effective in improving teachers’ digital skills and empowering them as agents of change.

ProFuturo thus reaffirms its commitment to continue working with the Global Education Coalition to ensure that quality education reaches everyone, especially those most in need. Because, as Stefania Giannini recalled, “education is a human right and one of the most powerful investments in peace, resilience and sustainable development”.
