ProFuturo participates in the UN Summit on Education Transformation

ProFuturo was part of the panel of world leaders participating in the first United Nations Transforming Education Summit (TES) which took place on 16, 17 and 19 September in New York.

The summit is convened in response to the global education crisis that has been accentuated by COVID-19 and affects millions of children in vulnerable contexts. In this regard, the UN hopes to secure national and international commitments; greater public participation and support; and a statement of principles from the Secretary-General on transforming education.

ProFuturo was present at the Solutions Day held on Saturday 17 September, with the aim of mobilising actions related to learning and digital transformation, the financing of education and the promotion of digital employability, among other thematic lines of action guided by the Sustainable Development Goals that make up the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Magdalena Brier, CEO of ProFuturo, participated in the meeting on fostering multi-stakeholder partnerships to drive education transformation. The session, organised by the Global Education Coalition (a collaborative platform launched by UNESCO in 2020 following COVID-19), of which ProFuturo is a member, also included other private sector partners such as Microsoft, Ericsson and Google, and government representatives such as the Ministers of Education of El Salvador and Senegal.

In his speech, Brier stressed that the challenges of digital transformation in education need joint solutions and drew attention to the need for “closer collaboration between ministries of education, educators and private sector leaders to connect and expand efforts to create holistic and resilient education systems that necessarily include a digital dimension”.

The participants in the session were unanimous in their commitment to mobilise the global education community and to promote lifelong learning in order to meet the new challenges of the labour market.
