The Emergency Committee, awarded for its digital campaign against COVID-19

The Emergency Committee has received the Gold award at the Inspirational Festival for its digital campaign to collect funds against COVID-19. The five NGOs comprised in the Emergency Committee, which were joined by ProFuturo and the Be a Lion agency, as well as other entities and the media, launched the great “Solidarity Challenge” campaign in May. The award was given in the “creativity during COVID-19” category by IAB Spain, the digital advertising and digital communication association in Spain. The online solidarity event brought together 160 artists, known faces and influencers, and it culminated in a gala event with a live broadcast lasting over 8 hours.

With the objective of collecting funds to help the most vulnerable persons – an initiative that ProFuturo sought to join from the very start – the gala event could be viewed on 28 digital channels simultaneously, and it was an unprecedented milestone in the digital world, with an audience of over 1.3 million people. Moreover, the event was a trending topic in Spain twice throughout the broadcast.

The Emergency Committee was created in 2015 in Spain by six NGOs (Action against Hunger, Spanish Committee for UNHCR, Doctors of the World, Oxfam Intermón, Plan International and World Vision), which decided to join forces in order to channel the solidarity of citizens and enterprises in great humanitarian emergencies.

The Committee originated as a way to offer a rapid response mechanism to emergency situations that would allow increasing citizen support in various humanitarian crises; to act as a permanent nexus between NGOs, enterprises, the media and citizens; to increase social confidence in NGOs in emergency situations, while rending accounts of the impact of actions; and to act jointly as a benchmark for society regarding emergency aid.

The Inspirational Festival is an annual event organised by IAB Spain for bringing together the communication and digital innovation sector in our country. It is composed of three days of talks and seminars, and it ends by giving out the Inspirational Awards to the best innovation and digital communication campaigns of the year. This year included the special COVID-19 category, in which the great Solidarity Challenge received the Gold award.
