Last Thursday, to mark World Teachers’ Day, we took part in the programme La Linterna on the Spanish radio station COPE, in which we shared the ProFuturo experience on our impact on education in vulnerable environments. Lola Martínez Bernabéu, Head of Operations, Letty Mariñas, Principal of Primary School 82912 in Porcón Alto, Cajamarca, Peru, along with the journalist Ángel Expósito, gave their reflections on the present and future of teaching.

World Teachers’ Day: a tribute to the centre of educational transformation
Every 5th of October marks World Teachers’ Day, a date that celebrates the vocation, dedication and talent of those who are the cornerstone of education around the world. At ProFuturo, we know that quality education is key for building a better future, and that teachers play a multiplier role in this process. Therefore, this day is an opportunity to acknowledge their effort, reflect on their needs and continue working together to reduce educational gaps.
We are bringing digital education to the most remote places
During the interview, Lola Martínez Bernabéu spoke about how ProFuturo, since its creation in 2016, has worked to offer quality digital education to children in vulnerable areas of Latin America, Africa and Asia. Our goal is simple: that no child, no matter where they live, is left behind in their education. ProFuturo is present in 39 countries, impacting more than 4.8 million students and 1.7 million teachers.
Through our digital platforms and content, we have managed to break down barriers, bringing technology and knowledge to places where access to the internet and educational resources is limited. This not only helps to narrow the educational gap, but also the digital divide, supplying new generations with the necessary tools to develop in an ever-evolving world.
The Story of Letty Mariñas: Education in the Mountains of Cajamarca
Letty, principal of Primary School 82912 in Porcón Alto, a small town located 900 kilometres from Lima, was the special guest of this edition. She told us how, thanks to ProFuturo, the students of her school, who previously had to walk long distances to get there, now have tablets and digital resources, which work offline, and which allow them to learn in a more interactive and enriching way.
“ProFuturo has opened a window to the world for us”, she said.
Not only have we been able to bring educational and technological resources to children who previously did not have access, but also to their teachers. In addition to providing them with the tools to manage their classes efficiently, we also focus our efforts on their lifelong learning. Lola Martínez shared how we work with teachers like Letty to improve their digital skills and help them integrate technology into their classes effectively.
“Without motivated and trained teachers, it would not be possible to realise our dream of bringing quality education to every corner of the world,” Lola said.
ProFuturo Impact: stories that inspire
Letty is living proof of the impact that ProFuturo has on communities. At ProFuturo, our commitment is clear: to ensure that all children, no matter where they live, have access to quality education. We know that this path is not easy, but with the support of teachers, like Letty Mariñas, and the alliances we have forged in more than 50 countries, we continue to move towards a more equitable future full of opportunities.
Technology is a powerful tool, but the real protagonists are teachers and students. Let’s continue working together so that education reaches every corner of the world, because every child deserves to dream of a better future!
