ProFuturo, winner of the Global Tech Impact Award for its technology-based education model for social transformation

The digital education programme promoted by the Telefónica Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation has been recognised as the best technology initiative with the greatest social impact.

ProFuturo, the digital education programme launched by Fundación Telefónica and “la Caixa” Foundation, has been awarded the Global Tech Impact Award for the best technology initiative with the greatest social impact focused on talent development. The award was presented at the 2026 Global Tech Leaders Awards ceremony, organised by the Community of Madrid to recognise companies and organisations that drive innovation, digital transformation and employment.

The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, presided over the ceremony, held at the Real Casa de Correos as part of Madrid Tech Week, which brought together more than 1,200 exhibiting companies and 600 professionals from the technology sector. “This award recognises an innovation that leaves its mark beyond the realm of technology because it transforms the lives of thousands of children and young people, broadening their future opportunities and opening up paths they could not previously have imagined,” said Lola Martínez Bernabeu, Chief Executive of ProFuturo, whilst accepting the award.

This recognition highlights the impact ProFuturo has made since its creation in 2016. Over the past decade, the programme has benefited more than 5.7 million children in 45 countries and nearly 6,000 schools, helping to improve learning and create opportunities for the future through education and technology. ProFuturo works to ensure high-quality digital education in vulnerable settings, integrating technology with a clear pedagogical purpose and reinforcing the role of teachers as drivers of educational change.

ProFuturo: education through technology for social transformation

Since 2016, Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “la Caixa” have been driving ProFuturo, the international programme for education through technology aimed at social transformation. Since then, they have shared a vision: to transcend the present in order to transform the future, so that no child’s place of birth determines their opportunities for learning and development. The programme promotes high-quality digital education in vulnerable contexts, integrating technology with a clear pedagogical purpose and reinforcing the role of teachers as key agents of educational change.
