ProFuturo, the programme of educational innovation with technology promoted by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación “La Caixa”; and American Tower today announced the extension of their partnership signed in February 2024, extending the project to schools in Brazil, Nigeria, Peru and Mexico to continue transforming children’s education through technology with the overall goal of narrowing the education gap in vulnerable environments in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
Thanks to this expansion, it is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of more than 29,500 students by providing quality digital education to children living in vulnerable environments in these countries, where it will work to implement educational innovation projects through technology.
The footprint of this project covers not only the education received by these nearly 30,000 students, but also that of their trainers, as more than a thousand teachers are responsible for the education of these students. This project not only aspires to play a transformative role in education but also to create a large international network of teachers who teach, learn, and share knowledge in order to jointly achieve better education around the world.
ProFuturo and American Tower seek to support under-served communities with educational innovation and technology, enabling social programmes to improve quality of life and ensure equitable participation in the digital world.
Magdalena Brier, CEO of ProFuturo, points out that this agreement demonstrates the enormous potential of these types of partnerships for digital inclusion and how they help to reinforce the positive impact of educational projects on the ground, such as the ones ProFuturo has been developing since 2016. “Thus, education with technology has enormous potential to help narrow the education gap, thanks to its reach and capacity for inclusion, bringing high-quality content to the most difficult environments, which would otherwise be very difficult to access.”
Mneesha Nahata, Global Senior Vice President of Legal and Sustainability for American Tower, said: “At American Tower, we are deeply proud to strengthen our partnership with ProFuturo, expanding our commitment to bring technology-enabled educational innovation through our Digital Communities programme to vulnerable regions in Brazil, Kenya, Nigeria, Peru and Mexico. This collaboration not only reflects our dedication to bridging the digital divide in Africa and Latin America, but also our commitment to empowering thousands of students and teachers with tools that will transform their futures. Together, we are building a solid foundation for lasting impact, where technology and education come together to create real opportunities for development and progress“
American Tower’ s Digital Communities are digitally connected, technology-equipped spaces that offer digital literacy and education for youth, financial education and vocational training for adults, or healthcare services. Following the principles set out by the United Nations Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals, American Tower and ProFuturo share the same vision: access to quality education in complex environments is essential to reduce poverty and inequality in the region. Through this strategic cooperation they hope to promote knowledge generation and innovative practices and enhance the educational digital transformation in Latin America in the coming years.
