ProFuturo, winner of the GLOMO 2023 award for its contribution to the SDGs

On Wednesday 28 February, ProFuturo was awarded the GSMA GLOMO 2023 award at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in the category 'Best Digital Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals'.

Last Tuesday 28 February, ProFuturo was awarded the GSMA GLOMO 2023 award at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) the prestigious accolades promoted by the GSMA that are presented by leading experts in the technological sector at the Mobile World Congress.

Our digital education programme was chosen as the winner of the Tech4Good category, which recognises “initiatives that tirelessly strive to ensure that no one gets left behind on the road to true Internet connection”. Within this category, it will compete for the award for the best digital contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Since it was created in 2016, ProFuturo has worked towards reducing the educational and digital gaps in the world’s most vulnerable environments. Its main tools are technology and innovation, which are put at the service of education through an education proposal that transforms the learning experiences of millions of children in 45 countries.

Technological equipment is provided at the schools that need it, especially those in the most remote places (rural areas with little or no Internet connection), but the education proposal goes much further. It works with a global approach that encompasses teacher training in digital skills, which are key to the educational transformation, and a digital learning platform with an increasingly wide range of resources suited to the diverse needs of students and teachers, among many other elements.

It thus contributes to SDG 4: To ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Its work has been widely acknowledged in the past. In 2021, ProFuturo received the prestigious WISE Award for educational innovation, which, on an annual basis, honours the six most outstanding international projects addressing global educational challenges. It was also selected by the Finnish HundrED organisation for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021) as one of the 100 best educational innovations in the world and by the World Bank, HundrED and the GPE as one of the 10 best career development projects for teachers around the world.

ProFuturo has also received the Go!ODS Award from the Spanish Network of the Global Compact and the Rafael del Pino Foundation for its contribution to SDG 4, it was selected as a Best Practice at the Dubai World Expo and it reached the 2020 final of the EQUALS in Tech Awards presented by the World Telecommunications Organisation (ITU).

The winners of the 27th Global Mobile (GLOMO) Awards will be announced on 28th February at a gala event to be held at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
