The ProFuturo Race and the 2024 Movistar Madrid Half Marathon present their official Joma T-shirts

On 7 April, we’ll all be back on the streets of Madrid to accumulate more and more kilometres for education together in our annual #ProFuturoRace. Clara Simal, the marathon runner from Madrid, was the first athlete to wear the official 2024 T-shirt at the presentation ceremony.

The ProFuturo Race and the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon have presented today in the Distrito Telefónica their long-awaited official 2024 T-shirts of the brand Joma which will be worn by registered participants from 7 April, the date of the event.

The T-shirts, made of the latest technical fabric designed by Joma specifically to assist breathability and help runners to perform at their best during training and competitions, were unveiled by Rocío Rey, Telefónica’s sponsorship manager; Magdalena Brier, general manager of ProFuturo; Monica del Arco, Marketing Manager of Joma; Eduardo Ajuria, President of the Agrupación Deportiva Marathon; and as institutional representatives at the event, Ricardo Echeita, General Director of Sports of Madrid City Council; and Alberto Tomé, General Director of Sports of the Community of Madrid. The first athlete to wear it today in the official presentation was Clara Simal, one of the top athletes of the Agrupación Deportiva Marathon, who is always in the first places of this race.

The ProFuturo Race and the 2024 Movistar Madrid Half Marathon will be held in parallel on 7 April and there are already more than 12,000 registered participants for the 21,097 m race more than three months before the event, which means that participation is expected to increase in comparison with recent years.

In the 2023 edition of the ProFuturo Race, some 2,000 runners participated over 5.8 kilometres and raised more than €19,000, which was donated to the educational innovation with technology programme promoted by Telefónica Foundation and the “la Caixa” Foundation to close the education gap in the most vulnerable corners of the world.

The winners were Hicham Sigueni (17:16) in the men’s category and Cristina Polanco (21:53) in the women’s category. Finlay Todd (17:47) and Sergio Salinero (17:55) came second and third in the men’s category, as did Marta Fernández (22:34) and Fernanda Real (23:03) in the women’s category. Abel Antón, Chema Martínez, the triathlete Javier Gómez Noya and the Paralympic athlete Lorenzo Albaladejo, considered the best athlete with cerebral palsy in the history of Spain in sprint events, also completed the race.

Meanwhile, in the most recent edition of the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon, good times were also achieved, such as that of the Kenyan Hyllary Kipkoech, who in addition to winning the race went under the hour mark (59:56) and in the women’s category, where the Ethiopian Zewditu Aderaw Gelaw won the race brilliantly, with a time of 1:07:38.

The race is organised by the Marathon Sports Association, Atresmedia and Sport Life Ibérica with the main sponsorship of Movistar and with the institutional support of the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid. Joma Sport is the technical sponsor and AhorraMás, Rafaelhoteles, Alquiber and Deloitte partners of the event.

For those interested in participating in both races, Movistar offers free personalised training plans through the “Train with Movistar” app, with personalised training and recommendations for all types of runners who will also be able to participate in the Telefónica Centenary Challenge: a virtual race in which they will have to accumulate 100 kilometres in different cumulative sessions. It is also possible to join the training sessions led by marathon runner Pablo Villalobos and the Marathon Sports Association from Rafaelhoteles Atocha, on 28 January, 11 and 18 February, and 3 and 16 March at 10 am.
