Computacional Thinking: keys, challenges and experiences in school

Why is computational thinking so important today? How can we adapt it to vulnerable situations so that no child is left behind? How do teachers tackle the process of incorporating computational thinking into their teaching practices? Discover some of the keys to computational thinking and the educational proposal we have taken to our schools.

Computacional Thinking: keys, challenges and experiences in school

21st century societies have made the incorporation of computational thinking into all education systems a vital necessity for the education of children and young people. It’s about integrating cognitive processes that go far beyond robotics or programming, and which are associated with a way of seeing the world that helps to develop very important skills for the citizens of tomorrow. The ability to persevere, to learn from our mistakes, to solve problems, to be flexible and creative, to communicate and to work in teams... These are just some of what are known as soft or transversal skills that students can develop when they integrate computational thinking into their lives.

For all these reasons, at ProFuturo we set out to work on computational thinking and lay the foundations to build a pedagogical proposal and an operational framework that could be applied in our schools, which are located in highly vulnerable environments.

How did we do it? What are the key aspects of our proposal? What life skills and competencies does computational thinking develop and how does it do this? What are the main challenges faced when it comes to training teachers in computational thinking? How is computational thinking helping children and young people from vulnerable environments? In this video, our experts  offer answer to all these questions.

In this video, our experts provide answers to all these questions. Don’t miss the reflections expressed by Moussa Boumadan, Research Professor in Educational Innovation; Marina Sanz, from the Innovation and Product area of the ProFuturo Foundation; Cristina Araya, Head of Educational Projects at Movistar Chile Telefónica Foundation, and Beatriz Ríos, Education Coordinator at Movistar Uruguay Telefónica Foundation.
